Chat

Overview- Chat can be a useful tool providing secure and private real-time messaging within your organization.

Start the Server- To utilize chat you must first enable the chat server. Go to File menu- Network- select Chat server. The Chat server is now running in the background. The server status is indicated in the status bar at the bottom of the Business Manager window.

Enter the Chat server IP- To allow others to connect they will need to enter the IP address or network machine name of the chat server.
  • Machine name example: BRAIN\Kevin
  • IP address example: 192.168.1.1
To find the Chat server IP:
  1. On the machine running the Chat server, Click Windows Start, Run
  2. Type cmd and Enter
  3. A command line window with a DOS prompt should be displayed.
  4. In the window Type ipconfig and press Enter.
  5. The IP address of the machine should now be displayed on the line that says: IPv4 Address......
Connect- From the machine running the chat server, select the Open Chat menu item and click connect. You should now be connected to your own chat server. Every other member of your team will need to enter the IP number or network machine name of the chat server machine into the Computer or IP box of the chat window. Once the correct machine is entered the user can click connect. All members should now be chatting.

Computer or IP edit field- Enter the IP address or machine name of the chat server.
Port- The default firewall port that chat runs through. If you are having trouble make sure that this port is enabled in your firewall settings.

Connect Button- Connects you to the chat server.

Chat Activity Window- Displays all chat activity for the current session.

Message Entry Box- Type your chat message here.

Send Button- Clicking on this sends your typed message.

Online Window- Displays a list of all connected users.
